Academic Programs:
Albert Einstein College of Medicine offers one of the nation’s largest programs for medical education. Einstein is home to over 1,200 students and trainees across our academic programs: 750 M.D. students, 150 Ph.D. students, 100 students in the joint M.D.-Ph.D. program, 25 students in our M.S. and certificate programs in Clinical Research Methods and Bioethics, and 250 postdoctoral research fellows at our Belfer Institute for Advanced Biomedical Studies. More than 9,000 Einstein alumni are among the nation’s foremost clinicians, biomedical scientists, and medical educators.

Accreditation:
Albert Einstein College of Medicine currently has degree granting authority from the State of New York: New York State Department of Education, 89 Washington Street, Board of Regents, Room 110 EB, Albany NY 12207, (518) 474-5889. Einstein has been awarded an absolute charter from New York State for the M.D., Ph.D. and M.S. degrees.
Einstein is fully accredited by The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104, 1-267-284-5000. MSCHE is one of six regional accrediting agencies in the United States, each of which accredits institutions of higher education within a specific geographic region. Middle States is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, enabling eligibility to participate in federal student financial aid programs (e.g., federal loans, grants, and work-study) administered by the U.S. Department of Education. Einstein's Medical Education program is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) (Email: lcme@aamc.org). The LCME is voluntary, peer-reviewed process that adheres to the accreditation standards outlined in the LCME document, Functions and Structure of a Medical School. As of July 31, 2023, Einstein's status is full accreditation, on probation. We accepted the LCME determination and are using this decision as an opportunity to correct deficiencies they identified to further enhance our medical education program. We have already corrected some elements and are in the process of correcting the others.

Transfer Credit Policies:
Einstein does not accept transfer students into the M.D. Program. In exceptional circumstances, the Dean may accept a student for transfer, generally under circumstances where a qualified student at another medical school is separated from a spouse in our program.
In the Graduate Division, students may receive transfer credit for no more than two graduate courses. However, if a student transfers to the Einstein PhD program from another accredited doctoral program, additional courses may be approved for transfer credit. Transfer credit is not available to students who were previously granted Master’s credit.
In the Bioethics Program, credit for work completed at another institution of higher education is not automatically granted. Only courses at the graduate level, taken toward a degree at an accredited institution, will be considered. Students may transfer a maximum of 10 credits toward the MBE degree. No transfer credit is allowed for any external courses completed more than five years before entering the program.
Transfer students are generally not accepted to the CRTP Program. In the rare event that there is a transfer student, it is at the discretion of the CRTP Executive Committee how many credits and which credits can be transferred.
Einstein does not grant credit for prior learning experience such as service in the armed forces, paid or unpaid employment, or other demonstrated competency or learning.
Health and Safety Information
Campus Security:
Einstein is committed to providing a secure environment for its faculty, staff, postdocs, students and visitors. Our security and transportation office strives to maintain the Einstein campus as a secure place for work and study. Its staff members offer a variety of services that include:
- providing campus security, along with around-the-clock Security Escort Service
- managing locksmith and lost & found services
- conducting investigations
- administering the campus ID card and access control program
- assigning and policing employee parking
- assisting with campus postings
- overseeing transportation services for medical students during their clerkships
- coordinating a shuttle service for members of the Einstein community to/from the 180th Street subway station in the Bronx
- maintaining a daily crime log and a fire safety log
- spearheading Einstein’s Campus Emergency Notification System
