Termination of Dead Card Notifications

MEMO

Date: November 30, 2021

Subject: Termination of Dead Card Notifications

Dear IAS Animal Users:

Effective Wednesday, December 1, 2021, IAS Veterinary Medical (Vet Med) staff will no longer send email notifications for routine “dead cases, ie. animals found dead during daily rounds. The exception will be  for those with the “last in cage” status, that is the last animal in the cage is found dead and the cage removed from the room.

Please understand that we can no longer undertake these courtesy email notifications due to severe staffing restrictions.

IAS will continue to use the trifold card system to identify dead cases, where you will have access to two of the dead cards: one identifying the cage, and the other identifying the carcass(es) stored in the cooler (should you need to examine them or recover tissues). If you have long term aging or time-to-death studies, you MUST check your cages with the frequency described in your approved IACUC protocol. You may refer to the “Activity Log” in the animal housing room as a cross-reference for the number of cases found on a particular day.

We appreciate your understanding of our current situation.

Sincerely,

IAS Vet Med
