The March minutes were approved.
Dean’s Report
Dean Allen Spiegel announced that Einstein will soon begin, on a pilot basis, clerkships for third-year medical students in Surgery and Medicine at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn. Housing will be provided for students while on clerkships there.
Speaker’s Report
Senate Speaker Jeff Segall announced that the minutes of the Senate Council meetings are now available on the Einstein Senate website.
Committee on Committees
There was nothing to report.
Vic Schuster: A Proposal for a New Division of the Department of Medicine
Vic Schuster, Chair of Medicine, informed the Senate that a Division of Hospitalists will soon be created within the Department of Medicine.
Michael Bloom: Retirement Plan Provider Update
Michael Bloom, Director of University Benefits, discussed the change in Einstein’s retirement plan provider from Prudential to Fidelity, including the reasons for the change. The conversion is scheduled for June 30, 2011.
David Cowburn: New York Structural Biology Center
David Cowburn, former head of the New York Structural Biology Center (NYSBC) and a recent Einstein recruit, discussed the methodologies and instrumentation available through NYSBC. These methodologies include X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, and NMR. For more information about the center, visit its website
