The April 23 minutes were approved.

The annual AAMC financial aid summary indicates that our tuition and fees for first year students are comparable to the median of all private schools and the average medical school debt of our graduates is slightly less than the median. In addition, Einstein does not charge for more than 4 years of tuition.

The AAMC Council of Deans met. The status of the NIH budget appropriation for federal fiscal year 2015 was discussed. A continuing resolution is likely due to this being an election year. There remains a strong emphasis in Congress on funding for cures. The AAMC Council for Academic Societies is planning an advocacy initiative for research funding. Proposals for increasing the NIH budget were also discussed.

There was a site visit to follow up on the use of funds for the development of NIH funded stem cell laboratory space renovation, which confirmed that the funds had been spent appropriately.

The Einstein budget was briefly discussed. There remains an unsustainable deficit, but steps are actively being taken to address this.

The meeting adjourned at 3:55 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Jeffrey E. Segall, Ph.D.
Speaker, Einstein Senate
