MINUTES OF SENATE COUNCIL MEETING

June 16, 2015

PRESENT: Drs. Allen Spiegel, Elyse Sussman, Jill Crandall, Susan Horwitz, Nadine Katz, Ellie Schoenbaum, Simon Spivack, Pamela Stanley, Allison Harney, Stephen Baum, Ed Burns, Ms. Jessica Doerner

Excused: Drs. Jeffrey Segall, Vern Schramm

ABSENT: Robbie Burk, Ekaterina Dadachova, Victor Schuster

GUEST: Ms. Shelly Motzkin

1. Dr. Baum presented, and Council discussed, a minor change to the student Bylaws
2. Dean Spiegel has appointed a task force to make recommended changes or revisions to the current medical school curriculum
3. LCME met June 9-11, and will provide a written report in due time
4. Communication from the Dean’s office regarding the transition process will be ongoing, as appropriate, throughout the summer. A recent update was sent indicating an expected delay of the closing to late summer.
5. A search committee for the Chair of Medicine has been reconstituted and is in action.
6. There was some discussion about the upcoming requirements for new departmental leadership.
7. There is currently no plan for consolidation of departments. However, within the framework of the transition, strategic planning going forward will involve consideration of reconfiguration of the Basic Science Departments.
