The schedule for future Senate meeting topics was discussed.
The NY Genome Center and NY Structural Biology Center were discussed. For the NYGC, Einstein is a founding member and our faculty receive a discounted rate for sequencing. It is obliged to provide letters of collaboration for grants, and can now provide mouse whole genome sequencing. It has CLIA certification for sequencing germ line whole exomes, and will be developing further capabilities for analyzing clinical samples. It does not provide epigenomic analysis while our in house core can provide that. Our liaison Brian Pelowsky can help coordinate providing samples to the NYGC.
The NY Structural Biology Center maintains state of the art NMR and cryoelectron microscopes. Einstein is a charter member, and Steve Almo and Mark Girvin are Einstein representatives to the board. In addition, there are x ray crystallography beam lines coming up at Brookhaven within a year that should be available. The Einstein membership fees cover the usage fees for NMR and cryoEM. Hernando Sosa and Mark Girvin/David Cowburn are the faculty liaisons for cryoEM and NMR, respectively.
It was proposed that these centers should be listed on the Einstein Scientific Cores web site.
The meeting adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jeffrey E. Segall, Ph.D.
Speaker, Einstein Senate
