Future agenda items were discussed. The heads of Development (Rachelle Sanders) and Human Resources (Yvonne Ramirez) will be invited to present to the Council on how their departments are now organized with Montefiore.
The organization of the various Boards of Trustees was discussed. The Einstein Board of Trustees is currently 75% selected by Montefiore, 25% selected by Yeshiva University, and is chaired by Roger Einiger. After Einstein achieves degree granting status there will be 1 Yeshiva University representative with the remainder selected by Montefiore. The Montefiore Medical Center Board of Trustees is chaired by James Butler, and the Montefiore Medicine Board of Trustees, which oversees both of the other boards, is chaired by David Tanner. There is a large amount of overlap between the two Montefiore Boards, and some members of the Einstein Board are also on the Montefiore Boards.
Regarding degree granting status, the best case scenario is for Einstein to be awarded candidate status late in 2018, in which case the class of 2019 would be the first class to be awarded the independent degree.
The Dean reported on new philanthropic gifts given by the Price and Tishman families.
There was a discussion regarding the terminology describing changes in salaries covered by grants. When salary coverage starts above 50% and remains above 50% after the change, requests for increases or decreases in salary coverage will termed salary adjustment requests, and will not be referred to as interim support requests.
The meeting adjourned at 3:55 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jeffrey E. Segall, Ph.D.
Speaker, Einstein Senate
