Summary of the Senate Meeting – January 3, 2018

• After approval of the Minutes, Dr. Allen Spiegel gave his Dean’s report.
• Dr. Spiegel updated the Senate on the search for the Cancer Center director as well as on the degree-granting status. He announced the Board’s approval of Einstein’s 2018 budget, and commented on the impact of the tax bill on Einstein finances.
• Dr. Jeffrey Segall, in his Speaker’ report, updated the Senate on two Council meetings, focusing on the role of the Communications Department, and announced the elected members of the 2018 Senate Council.
• Dr. John Blanchard, faculty representative for the Einstein Retirement Plan Committee, explained the functions of the Committee and the investment strategies chosen for the Einstein retirement plans.
• Dr. Dhanonjoy Saha, director of the Office of Grant Support, described in detail the functions of his office and the various ways in which it can facilitate grant development and submission.
