The possible impact of the tax bill on graduate student finances was discussed. There is an article on this at: https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2017/11/07/grad-students-and-policy-experts-say-taxing-graduate-students-tuition-waivers-would.
Yvonne Ramirez presented a thorough update on the integration of Einstein HR with Montefiore HR. Einstein is an affiliate of Montefiore Health Systems but is a distinct and separate employer. Health benefits are closely aligned with Montefiore, which allows us to leverage Montefiore’s significant purchasing power to save money. Einstein’s retirement plan is separate in terms of assets - Einstein pays directly for all benefits. Einstein’s management learning network includes learning opportunities such as Lynda.com. Some hiring procedures are specific to Einstein since there are members who are not interacting with patients. Einstein has a separate employee database and HR/payroll system that is integrated with the grants management system.
The meeting adjourned at 3:55 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jeffrey E. Segall, Ph.D.
Speaker, Einstein Senate
