This was the first meeting of the 2018 Senate Council. The members of the Council introduced themselves.
There was a discussion of heating issues in student housing with the recent cold weather. The presentation by Gordon Earle was discussed and the presentation along with follow up notes should be sent to the current Council. Updating the Senate Bylaws would be appropriate at this time, and the Senate Committee on Committees will be asked to assemble a committee to consider revisions. There was a discussion of recent tech transfer successes at Einstein.
The following agenda items for future meetings were proposed.
- Student housing: It would be helpful for Jed Shivers, Sal Ciampo, and the appropriate Montefiore representative to present as a group.
- Demographics of the faculty: How to address the relative aging of the faculty. Jed Shivers has the relevant data.
- Technology transfer
- The medical school graduation questionnaire
- A recent article in JAMA regarding medical schools as public vs private good
On February 21 there will be a fundraising event in Florida which the Dean will attend. The Council will determine whether to meet on that day.
The meeting adjourned at 5 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jeffrey E. Segall, Ph.D.
Speaker, Einstein Senate
