Einstein Senate
Senate Meeting: Wednesday, March 14, 2018
- After approval of the Minutes, Dr. Allen Spiegel gave his Dean’s report.
- Dr. Spiegel updated the Senate on Einstein’s responses to the issues raised by the LCME (the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, which accredits MD education programs) and on progress toward independent degree granting status.
- He also updated the Senate on initiatives to address student housing issues that were raised by the “quality of life” committee.
- Dr. Jeffrey Segall, for his Speaker’ report, commented on a few IT issues discussed in the previous Senate meeting, and reported on a board of trustees meeting.
- Jed Shivers and Jim Geraghty presented the annual budget report, indicating a shortfall on the philanthropy line as the major difference with the 2017 approved budget. The 2018 budget projects increases in tuition and philanthropy revenue, as well as in Montefiore support. This is combined with increases in capital expenditure to result in a projected deficit of about $65 million out of a total budget of $442 million.
