A multiyear plan is being prepared for the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees by the Dean’s office.
Kristen Kidder – senior executive director of development – gave an overview of the development office.
Individuals and foundations are major sources. Religion is a major driver, then education and healthcare. Einstein and Montefiore fundraising are similar - about 18 million each cash in hand and pledge payments. Gifts >10 million are termed transformational. Einstein gifts tend to be from the Board while Montefiore gifts tend to be from foundations. Most funds are restricted.
The development office organization totals about 40 staff : 20 Einstein/20 Montefiore: A current goal is to bring in new strong team members.
One topic of discussion was endowment vs immediate spending – for big gifts suggested plan would be 50:50.
Philanthropy Council: meets quarterly and is mainly composed of faculty.
The meeting adjourned at 4 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jeffrey E. Segall, Ph.D.
Speaker, Einstein Senate
