  1. Meeting minutes from the Dec. 18, 2019 Senate Council meeting were approved.
  2. The newly elected members of the 2020 Senate Council were introduced. Dr. Jonathan Lai (Vice Speaker) filled in for Dr. Julia Arnsten who was away.
  3. The Dean updated the Council on the Cancer Center Director search.
  4. The NYC EDC GMP facility was discussed. Development of Van Etten for the facility requires approval of the lienholders. Potential synergy with the recently announced NYU Langone BioLabs incubator (also supported by the EDC) was discussed. The NYU Langone facility is an incubator for start-up companies, which could potentially be customers for the Einstein GMP facility.
  5. Potential effects of the NY State budget on Medicare/Medicaid were discussed.
  6. Composition of the Senate Council was discussed, and the desire for elected Assistant and Associate Professor representatives. A motion for approval from the Senate was drafted that includes two each Assistant and Associate Professors on the Council. In addition, the Senate Bylaws committee will modify the Bylaws to permanently include these four positions as part of the Council, and to develop language that encourages inclusion and diversity on the Senate Council.
  7. Funding for the Einstein Senate was discussed. Current revenue relies on private donations/pledges from the Einstein senators, so that there is no conflict of interest should these funds be used for activities that are independent from the Einstein administration.

The meeting adjourned at 3:52 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Jonathan Lai, Ph.D.
Vice Speaker, Einstein Senate
