MINUTES OF SENATE COUNCIL MEETING

PRESENT: Drs. Julia Arnsten, Jonathan Lai, Myles Akabas, Jonathan Alpert (by phone), Anne Bresnick, Robbie Burke, Jill Crandall, Chandan Guha, Susan Klugman, Courtney Niland, Victor Schuster, Edward Burns, Allison Ludwig; Mr. Ryan Graff

GUEST: Ms. Shelly Motzkin, Dr. Nerys Benfield

1. Dr. Edward Burns filled in for Dr. Gordon Tomaselli, who was away.
2. Meeting minutes from the Jan 22, 2020 Senate Council meeting were approved.
3. Dr. Nerys Benfield was introduced as an Invited Guest of the Senate Council. Dr. Benfield is the Chair of the Council on Diversity and Inclusion.
4. Strategies for further outreach to Jacobi were discussed. The importance of Jacobi-EinsteinMontefiore relationship was discussed, as many Einstein medical students perform their clerkships at Jacobi. There is concern that there may be in future competition between Einstein and other medical schools for clerkship slots at Jacobi, which would have a significant negative impact on the Einstein curriculum. Creation of a specific taskforce to enhance communication between Jacobi and Einstein-Montefiore is underway.
5. Senate committees were discussed. Based on the Jan. 8, 2019 senate meeting presentation by Dr. Arne Gennerich, it was proposed that all extant committee remain. In addition, Dr. Arnsten proposed the creation of committees to handle future senate elections, and to handle student grievances. 

The meeting adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
