MINUTES OF SENATE COUNCIL MEETING

  1. Meeting minutes from the Apr 22, 2020 Senate Council meeting were approved.
  2. Update on effects of COVID-10 on College, and considerations for reopening: Official mandate for reopening forthcoming from the Dean’s office; antibody testing will be available to all members of Einstein community; antibody testing will not be required to return to campus, but social distancing measures will continue; consideration of how to resume activities such as on - going searches, committee meetings; third-year medical students will go back lnt he wards, with two weeks of virtual learning followed by introduction of small groups of students beginning June 29th .
  3. Medical and graduate education in the fall: Distance learning will continue into the fall; medical and graduate students will be physically on campus (living in housing); lectures by Zoom, but potentially small group breakout sessions in person. For graduate school, the third laboratory rotation for this year will be deferred to the fall, which will push back the incoming class’s first laboratory rotation.
  4. Committees: New membership required for the Awards and Responsible Conduct of Research Committees. Next faculty senate meeting will include presentations from the Chairs of the Committees on Appointments and Promotions. The Medical School Admissions Committee roster was reviewed and approved.
  5. Future Einstein Faculty Senate meetings: These will be held remotely by Zoom; logistics for voting on motions was discussed, potentially using the polling feature on Zoom; other outstanding agenda items include revision of the Senate bylaws, Faculty Interactions Committee meeting, update on Middle States.
  6. Medical clerkships and relationship with Jacobi was discussed. 
  7. Financial impact of COVID-19 on Einstein and Montefiore was discussed, including potential income from the CARES Act, medical reimbursements, and philanthropy. 

The meeting adjourned at 3:57 p.m.
