Overview

A Unique Opportunity for Research Experience

The Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center Summer High School Research Program introduces Bronx high school students age 16 and older to cutting-edge scientific research. Students will be part of a research team under the guidance of an Einstein faculty member. Program participants will learn research skills while working in an Einstein lab. The goal of the program is to provide Bronx HS students with an experience that will encourage them to think about a career in science.

Participants will have the opportunity to present their work to the Einstein community on the last day of the program.

Program Details

Start Date: July 11, 2022

Six week, full-time summer research experience; Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Participants will receive:

  • A stipend for completing the program ($2,500)
  • Metro card for transportation
  • Daily meal voucher

  • Program Requirements

    Program Requirements

    • Attendance is required M-F from 9am to 5pm and includes lab work and attending weekly information sessions/workshops
    • Must attend all 6 weeks; there are no holidays or days off
    • Students are responsible for daily transportation to and from the Einstein campus
    • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the start of the program
  • Participant Requirements

    • Must live and attend high school in the Bronx
    • Must be at least 16 years old by program start date
    • Must be entering the 11th or 12th grade
    • Must be able to travel independently to and from the Einstein campus (1300 Morris Park Avenue)
    • Must be able to attend the entire 6 week program
    • Must have a passion for science!

    • Complete the application
    • Complete the parental permission form (English or Spanish)
    • Obtain a copy of your high school transcript
    • Request 1 letter of recommendation, which must be submitted by a teacher or school principal (instructions here)

Getting to Einstein

The Albert Einstein College of Medicine is located in the northeast section of the Bronx.

Transportation: The Einstein campus is easily accessible via public transportation.

  • 2 or 5 train to East 180 Street, then the Bx21 bus on Morris Park Avenue to Eastchester Road
  • Must attend all 6 weeks; there are no holidays or days off
  • Students are responsible for daily transportation to and from the Einstein campus
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the start of the program
