Special Session: Chagas Disease: My Achy Breaky Heart

Event Description

It is estimated that at least 300,000 individuals with Chagas disease are living in the United States. One third of patients develop severe symptoms of heart failure, thromboembolic phenomena, and life threatening ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death (SCD) is frequent in this disease. Chagas cardiomyopathy has higher morbidity and mortality rates compared with cardiomyopathies due to other causes.

Dr. Rachel Marcus will bring her years of experience to this session which will focus on the cardiac manifestations of Chagas disease, and this will be an in depth talk on the echocardiographic, EKG findings, and management of patients with Chagasic cardiomyopathy. This session is a must for practicing cardiologists and trainees!

By the end of this session, participants should be able to:

1. Discuss echocardiographic findings of patients with Chagas cardiomyopathy

2. Discuss complications of Chagas cardiomyopathy

3. Discuss treatment of Chagas cardiomyopathy
