Einstein Senate
Senate Meeting: Wednesday, February 7, 2024
- Dr. Tomer gave the Dean’s Report. He congratulated the Seed Grant winners and thanked the committee charged with reviewing the applications. He also gave updates on several initiatives related to LCME including the launching of MedEd Weekly to better communicate with students, letters of intent for faculty interested in participating in the new learning communities, and development of an updated strategic plan. • Dr. Arnsten provided the Speaker’s Report and updated the Senate on the most recent Senate Council meetings, which also discussed the strategic plan, as well as issues related to Title IX. She made announcements regarding upcoming events. Ilana Karp then spoke on behalf of the Women’s Networking Group about Women in Science Day on February 14.
- Dr. Daniel Correa gave a report on the activities of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Office of Diversity Enhancement. He talked about the initiatives related to Black History Month and reminded the Senate about the many organizations and action groups supported by the Office of Diversity Enhancement, which have increased over the last year. Dr. Correa also gave updates on the efforts to bring together pathway programs and the community building grants, for which applications are due on March 15.
- Dr. Sandra Oza outlined the plans for creating learning communities at Einstein and explained the benefits of this structure for both students and participating faculty.
- Dr. Vagish Hemmige discussed research projects for medical students and showcased a new online platform for faculty interested in serving as mentors to use to post projects. Einstein and Montefiore faculty no longer need to have a separate login and a similar form is also available for Jacobi faculty with a few additional questions to collect the necessary contact information. In addition, student research will be showcased at Impact Day on March 21 for all who wish to attend.
