Senate Meeting: Wednesday, May 1, 2024

  • Dr. Tomer presented the Dean’s Report. He gave updates on LCME, including compliance with the annual faculty review and creation of study space for students on rotation at CHAM, as well as on the opening of Albert’s Kitchen. In addition, Dr. Tomer talked about the reduced class size going forward, ongoing renovations to the library and Albert’s Den facilitated by philanthropic funds, and advocacy efforts in Albany.
  • Dr. Arnsten gave the Speaker’s Report and provided additional information on the Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program, which was one of the programs Einstein advocated for in the latest state budget. The recent Senate Council sessions discussed reducing food insecurity among students and electric charging stations in Einstein parking lots. Finally, a test of using Poll Everywhere for attendance and voting was conducted successfully.
  • Drs. Lynn Holden and Daniel Correa reported on behalf of the Office of Diversity Enhancement. They talked about updates to the Policy for Diversity Categories in response to LCME feedback, as well as the inventory of pathway programs and the winners of the Community Building Grants.
  • There was no Committee on Committees report for this month.
  • Dr. Soledad Sosa spoke about the work of the Cancer Center DEI Office and its two committees: Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) and Excellence in Career Enrichment Leadership (ExCEL).
  • Dr. Christina Yang gave a brief update from the Backup Childcare Committee. There was follow-up with Montefiore in April regarding the committee’s proposal and more information will be shared at future Senate meetings. There was also a follow-up question regarding childcare assistance for staff scientists, which will be discussed further with Yvonne Ramirez in Einstein HR.
