Event Description
Chagas disease is caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi and consequences of this lifelong parasitic infection can include severe cardiomyopathy or gastrointestinal disease. Patients are often diagnosed when presenting to their cardiologist with cardiac disease or as part of a screening program. It is estimated approximately 300,000 people with Chagas disease are living in the United States. Dr. Daniel Bourque, Assistant Professor of Medicine from Boston University’s Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, will discuss which patients should receive antiparasitics while reviewing successes and challenges that have arisen when treating patients with Chagas disease. He will bring his wealth of experience to this webinar.
