The Children's Hospital at Montefiore/Albert Einstein College of Medicine Announce New Leadership in Pediatrics

The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) and the department of pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine have recently added several key leaders to their ranks. Under the direction of Judy Aschner, M.D., physician-chief at CHAM and university chair, pediatrics at Einstein and Montefiore, the new recruitments and promotions include:

Patricia Hametz, M.D., M.P.H. named Chief of the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, effective October 2016

Dr. Hametz was recruited from Columbia University Medical Center where she has enjoyed a 25- year academic career in various leadership roles. In her most recent positions as associate director, Division of Child and Adolescent Health, and director of the Columbia Children’s Complex Care Program, she oversaw clinical operations across general pediatrics, adolescent medicine, hospital medicine, developmental behavioral pediatrics, child abuse, well baby nursery and the newborn clinic.

Suzette Oyeku, M.D., M.P.H. named Chief of the Division of Academic General Pediatrics, effective August 2016

Dr. Oyeku was recruited in 2006 following the completion of fellowship training in the Harvard Pediatric Health Services Research Fellowship program at Boston Children’s Hospital. At CHAM and Einstein, she has assumed numerous leadership positions, including associate director of Leadership, Engagement and Diversity (L.E.A.D) in the office of faculty development, in addition to being a general pediatrician and health services researcher.

Peter Belamarich, M.D., appointed Vice Chair for Affiliate and Network Relations, Department of Pediatrics, effective August 2016

Dr. Belamarich has assumed the role of vice chair for affiliate and network relations in the department of pediatrics at CHAM and Einstein. In this role, he will promote the health of the children in our region by connecting primary care providers and affiliated hospitals with CHAM’s nationally recognized medical and surgical subspecialty services and pediatric expertise. Dr. Belamarich has served in numerous leadership roles at CHAM and Einstein including division chief of academic general pediatrics and director of the pediatric ambulatory subspecialty services.

Melissa Wasserstein, M.D., named Chief of the Division of Pediatric Genetic Medicine, effective April 2016

Dr. Wasserstein is an NIH-funded clinical researcher whose work focuses on evaluating the safety and effectiveness of novel treatments for patients with inborn errors of metabolism. Prior to joining CHAM and Einstein, Dr. Wasserstein was director of the Program for Inherited Metabolic Diseases at Mount Sinai Health System.
