Montefiore Einstein Division of Pulmonary Medicine

Research Training

 fellowship research page

Several faculties within the Divisions of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine are involved in translational, epidemiological, clinical trials and outcomes, and health disparities research. Main areas of investigation include but are not limited to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Sepsis, Asthma, Occupational lung diseases, Lung Cancer and pulmonary infections such as COVID-19, HIV, Nontuberculous mycobacteria and Tuberculosis.

During the first year of fellowship, fellows are strongly encouraged to meet, discuss interests and projects with prospective research mentors. Majority of the research electives are assigned in the second and third year of fellowship. Collaborative relationships with Immunology, Oncology, Cardiology, and Infectious Diseases make for an immensely educational experience for all our fellows. Some fellows also opt to supplement their research skill-set by taking graduate level courses in bioinformatics, public health, statistics, programming, and epidemiology

During the fellowship-training program, fellows are expected to present their scholarly work at national meetings such as the American Thoracic Society and CHEST.  Fellows are also encouraged to prepare a manuscript and publish their research findings as an important milestone towards establishing themselves in academic medicine.

Some examples of translational and clinical investigators are;
