Precepting 101: An Introduction to Clinical Coaching Using the Growth Mindset
Tuesday, May 31, 2022
Event Description
Faculty serve as preceptors in a variety of clinical settings and find themselves needing to effectively diagnose the learner and deliver effective clinical coaching, often under tight time constraints. Dr. Carol Dweck's "growth mindset" philosophy may empower faculty to focus and tailor learning that can be transformative and bolster faculty precepting skills and the learner's experience. We will introduce the growth mindset and then describe and practice effective precepting methods while applying it to varied precepting scenarios.
By the end of this session, learners will be able to:
•Understand the process and principles of effective precepting via micro skills.
•Identify specific precepting challenges and strategize for solutions.
•Apply a growth mindset to precepting encounters.
