Anesthesiology Research News
Leaders in the Science of Anesthesiology
At the Department of Anesthesiology, we are committed to continually improving patient safety and care, minimizing surgical complications and maximizing perioperative comfort. We have been leading the way with groundbreaking research for more than six decades and continue to advance the field with novel scientific discoveries and innovations. Our researchers are conducting basic, translational and clinical research across a wide range of areas and subspecialties in anesthesiology, with a unique emphasis on digital health research, epidemiology and population health, social determinants of health and quality assurance. We spearhead numerous studies and clinical trials, including research funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Our Digital Health Laboratory is at the heart of our clinical and observational research. Our comprehensive perioperative medicine database (created using AI and machine learning) informs decisions in clinical operations, quality improvement and education, enabling more effective and personalized patient care. We are also proud to have co-designed the first ever anesthesiologist-led, multicenter randomized control trial (RCT) funded by the NIH. By harnessing Montefiore Einstein’s database of unique patient demographics, we also emphasize health equity in our research, focusing on population health and projects that evaluate healthcare disparities.
