Apply Now for a Career Development Award
Fast Facts:
- Career Development Awards (CDAs) are sponsored by a Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) from the NIH and the Einstein/Montefiore Institute for Clinical and Translational Research.
- We encourage applications from members of underserved and under-represented minority and ethnic populations.
- Awards include salary support for the Scholar plus additional funding for research training and research related expenses.
- Scholars must be supervised by a primary mentor, who should be willing to devote significant effort to mentoring activities during the period of this award, and a designated co-mentor.
- Many Scholars will participate in Einstein’s flagship Clinical Research Training Program (CRTP), a CTSA-funded curriculum in clinical research methods leading to the M.S. degree, or similar didactic training.
Applying for a Mentored Career Development Award
Qualified candidates are encouraged to submit an application for a Mentored Career Development Award.
- Applicants must have a research or health-professional doctoral degree or its equivalent, and be able to commit a minimum of 9 calendar months (75%) of full-time professional effort for career development and research associated with the program.
The remaining 3 calendar months’ (25%) effort can be divided among other research, clinical and teaching activities only if these activities are consistent with the proposed goals of the KL2 program.
Mentoring for Translational and Team Science (MeTTS) Program
At any given time, there are approximately 50 junior faculty in the Einstein-Montefiore system who are receiving career development awards in clinical and translational research. While each awardee has her/his own career development and mentoring plan, there are some overarching, near universal issues faced by all such Scholars. For instance:
- How can I find the support services I need?
- What should I do to get promoted?
- What “tricks of the trade” will help me be successful when applying for grants?
The MeTTS “networking” group was created to help these Scholars find solutions to these questions. This group network includes all Einstein faculty engaged in clinical/translational research and who have federal, foundation, or institutional career development awards and meets monthly for presentations and discussions designed to support their transition to independent research careers, in order to complement their individual and departmental career development support with a broad and diverse support network.
Center of Excellence in Promoting Learning Health Systems Operations and Research at Einstein/Montefiore (EXPLORE)
We are delighted to announce that Einstein/Montefiore has recently been awarded an Institutional K12 from AHRQ and PCORI to support the training of clinicians and research scientists to conduct patient-centered outcomes research within the “learning health system” (LHS). The LHS model represents a highly promising and paradigm-shifting approach to the delivery of health care. A LHS is characterized by its capacity to continuously study every health care interaction to generate objective evidence and actionable knowledge, engage stakeholders, and develop targeted processes to improve outcomes. Montefiore supports the K12 through a Center of Excellence in Promoting LHS Operations and Research at Einstein/Montefiore (EXPLORE), led by co-Principal Investigators, Michael Rinke, MD, PhD, Chinazo Cunningham, MD, MS, and Paul Marantz, MD, MPH. The EXPLORE Center builds upon the research training and support infrastructure of the Einstein/Montefiore Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, the informatics infrastructure of the Center for Health Data Innovations, and the resources of Montefiore’s Network Performance Group (responsible for quality of care, operational excellence, and patient safety at MHS). We are seeking highly motivated, qualified candidates for this 2-3 year career development program. Scholars will be embedded in mentored, institutionally-defined LHS research and performance improvement initiatives, complemented by an individualized educational program. Our Scholars and mentors will participate in a national LHS Research Collaborative comprising the 11 funded Centers.
Detailed information about the program, and application instructions, are available here. Candidates from underrepresented groups and those with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Applications must be submitted by October 1, 2020. Questions may be directed to Einstein-Explore@einsteinmed.edu.
