Clinical Neurophysiology - EMG & Neuromuscular Disorders

The division of clinical neurophysiology, EMG and neuromuscular disease, is dedicated to providing the highest level of clinical evaluation and management of patients with neuromuscular disorders.  We are committed to the education of physicians in training, including fellows pursuing subspecialty training in the field of electrodiagnostic medicine and neuromuscular disease, and to making outstanding contributions to areas of clinical research that span the spectrum of neuromuscular diseases.

Active areas of interest include:

  • Peripheral neuropathy - diagnosis, treatment, risk factors, electrophysiologic identification
  • Entrapment neuropathy - CTS and more uncommon entrapments
  • Radiculopathy
  • Plexopathy -  traumatic, neuralgic amyotrophy, diabetic lumbosacral   radiculoneuropathy
  • Nerve injury - localization, prognosis
  • Critical illness neuropathy and myopathy
  • Disorders of peripheral nerve hyperexcitability
  • Peripheral neurotoxicology.   
  • Cranial neuropathy - facial palsy, trigeminal neuropathy, others
  • Laryngeal voice disorders - diagnostic laryngeal EMG;  EMG-guided Botox
  • Motor neuron disorders - spinal muscular atrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Kennedy’s disease, post-polio syndrome
  • Neuromuscular junction disorders - myasthenia gravis, myasthenic syndrome, botulism, congenital myasthenic syndromes
  • Myopathy – dystrophy, metabolic, congenital, mitochondrial, inflammatory, muscle membrane channelopathy
