51st Annual Chief Residents Leadership Conference

Tarrytown

May 31 - June 2, 2024

The IBM Louis V. Gerstner, Jr. Center for Learning
Armonk, New York

General Information

For 50 years the annual Chief Residents Leadership Conference (the “Tarrytown” meeting) has been the premier leadership training experience for incoming chief residents. It provides an immersion in experiential exercises designed so participants gain personal awareness and develop strategies for resolving leadership dilemmas that they will confront during the upcoming academic year and throughout their careers.

Here’s what previous Chief Residents had to say:

  • "What an amazing concept! I’ve been to leadership conferences before, but I’ve always been a passive recipient of information. Here, we were receiving training without even realizing it – much more effective."
  • "Unlike any other conference attended. Process feels incredible."
  • "An unmatched experience. Very demanding but incredible, rewarding."

Who Should Attend

In-coming Chief Residents and Fellows with leadership responsibilities.

Objectives

Attendees will gain personal knowledge and understanding about:

  • Leadership skills
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Group dynamics
  • Their roles as middle managers within a residency training program
  • The subtleties of the influence of diversity (race, gender, sexual identity, culture, etc.) on organizational systems

Residents will have an opportunity to learn about other residency programs, exchange ideas with peers, and network with colleagues from across the US and Canada.
