Education Led by the associate division chief for education, the Division Hospital Medicine prides itself on a strong commitment to education for all levels of learners. Our faculty have leadership roles in medical student education, graduate medical education and faculty development. We believe in the concept of the growth mindset and that learning is a lifelong journey. We have expertise in educational domains as varied as clinical reasoning, point of care ultrasonography, and health disparities and advocacy. Graduate Medical Education Currently the Division of Hospital Medicine boasts five associate program directors in the two Montefiore internal medicine residency programs. Hospitalists from our division also direct the hospital medicine and health systems pathway (hospital medicine track) for the Internal Medicine PGY-2 and PGY-3 residents and the Medicine Consultation Service. Medical Student Education Along with providing significant teaching, members of the Devision of Hospital Medicine serve as site directors for the "Introduction to Clinical Medicine" course and as site directors for the internal medicine clerkship and sub-internship. Two members of the division are also heavily involved in the Montefiore Einstein medical school as the associate dean for medical education and the director of integration & intersessions. Faculty Development We are continually expanding and modifying our initiatives to promote pursuit of additional faculty education and expertise. Below are some examples of active faculty development programs. Peer Observation of Teaching (PoT): While our hospitalists are responsible for most of the inpatient resident teaching, we recognize that most residents do not graduate with any experience in formal teaching. The PoT program provides both new and experienced hospitalists with an opportunity to observe each other on teaching rounds throughout the academic year. This allows hospitalists to improve teaching expertise through observation and adoption of effective teaching methods. Hospital Medicine Grand Rounds: Monthly didactic conferences on topics important to hospital medicine. Hospital Medicine Case Conference: Quarterly conference where hospitalists share interesting cases with their colleagues in a structured manner. Expertise in Clinical Vignettes: Our hospitalists gain expertise in mentoring residents and medical students in submitting clinical vignettes for national meetings. Montefiore has an excellent track record for acceptance of clinical vignettes for national meetings, including multiple award winners for best vignette. Point of Care Ultrasound: Opportunity for internal training, attendance at external courses, and ultimate certification and credentialing in point of care ultrasound.
