Apply for Residency
The Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program provides an exceptional comprehensive educational experience through a collaboration between Montefiore and our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. The five-year program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and includes formal didactics and clinical rotations in all of the subspecialty areas. The program seeks to educate residents to be both empathetic caring physicians as well as outstanding competent surgeons. Toward this end, the program’s ultimate aim is to provide residents with an unparalleled educational experience, built upon both formal didactics and informal mentorships. The program places particular emphasis upon physical examination skills, diagnostic interperetation, non-operative management strategies and advanced surgical and technical proficiency. The program is designed to offer progressive responsibility culminating in graduated autonomy.
Our program accepts applications for residency positions through the Electronic Residency Application Service. Each year, six categorical PGY-1 positions are available, and they are selected through our participation in the National Residency Matching Program. Our application deadline is October 1st, with interview invitations typically extended in early November. A select number of candidates will be invited for interviews. We offer two interview dates, one in December and one in January.
Applicants are required to submit the following through ERAS:
- Medical School Transcript
- Dean's Letter
- USMLE Score Report
- Three Letters of Recommendation (A fourth letter will be accepted, but is not required)
