J1 Scholars
The United States Department of State has designated the Albert Einstein College of Medicine as an Exchange Visitor Sponsor in the category of Research Scholar (J-1 visa status). Our participation in the program allows the University to sponsor individuals to come to the United States on a temporary basis to teach, study, observe, conduct research or receive training. The Office of International Services (OIS) provides guidance to our participants to enable them to maintain their status and to obtain “extensions of stay” in order to complete the objectives for which they came to the United States. The OIS also assists our Research Scholars with changes in visa status for those individuals who wish to pursue employment opportunities at the University.
The J-1 Research Scholar Program is designed for temporary exchanges and collaborations between institutes or governments. Faculty members at the college may sponsor a Research Scholar to participate in their programs here. In such an arrangement, the faculty member mentor is herein referred to as the "Sponsor". Research Scholars are eligible for employment at our University or may bring with them their own funding. Participation in the program as a Research Scholar is time limited for a period of up to five years to teach, study, observe, conduct research or receive training. Transfer from one institution to another is generally permitted if the academic objective remains the same from one program to the other.
