Middle States Self‐Study 2026–28

Albert Einstein College of Medicine first received accreditation as an independent degree-granting institution from the Middle States Commission for Higher Education (MSCHE) in 2021. MSCHE accreditation is renewed every eight years and is proceeded by an institutional Self-Study. Einstein’s Self-Study process was launched in September 2026 and will culminate in a Site Visit by an MSCHE Evaluation Team in the fall of 2028. The MSCHE accreditation renewal vote will take place in early 2029.

Institutional Priorities of the Self‐Study

Einstein has identified the following three priorities that will be addressed during the Self‐Study:

  1. Competency-based training programs to develop physicians and scientists with the knowledge and skills needed to serve patient communities and advance biomedical science.
  2. Data-driven decision-making systems supported by a robust technology infrastructure, aligned with strategic priorities, and strengthened through continuous improvement processes.
  3. Effective organizational structure& that includes transparent governance, clear policies and procedures, and defined roles and responsibilities.

Intended Outcomes of Self‐Study Process

Through an inclusive and candid Self‐Study, Einstein will aim to accomplish the following intended outcomes:

  • Demonstrate how the institution currently meets MSCHE’s Standards for Accreditation.
  • Apply periodic assessment for continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Engage the institutional community in an inclusive and transparent self-appraisal process.
  • Measurably and continuously advance its mission through competency-based training, data-driven decision-making, and an effective, transparent organizational structure that strengthens governance and institutional effectiveness.

Updates & Feedback

Einstein will provide regular updates to the Einstein community and external stakeholders during the Self‐Study preparation phase (fall 2026 through spring 2027) and solicit feedback on the completed Self‐Study Report Draft in fall 2027.
