The Master of Science (M.S.) in Clinical Research Methods is attained through the Clinical Research Training Program (CRTP). This intensive two-year program is designed for those pursuing a career in investigator-initiated, hypothesis-driven clinical research. The CRTP is a comprehensive program that combines didactic learning and coursework with a mentored research experience. CRTP scholars are drawn from all of Montefiore Einstein’s medical specialties and subspecialties, including those interested in clinical investigation across the entire translational research spectrum, from mechanistic studies to population-based and health services research.
For examples of the types of research our students are or have currently undertaken please see our CRTP Virtual Poster Presentations.
Applying to the CRTP
We invite all qualified candidates to apply to the CRTP program. In fact, we are open to eligible candidates from any health-related field or medical specialty. Strong preference is given to candidates with evidence of prior research productivity including published papers, abstract and/or presentations or documentation of research work experience. In addition, the following are major factors considered by the admissions committee:
- A strong mentoring environment, mentoring plan and commitment of the mentor.
- A firm commitment from the trainee’s department (Chair, Division Head, or Fellowship Director) that all necessary resources will be made to the trainee, including the required protected time with demonstrable reductions in clinical, teaching, and administrative responsibilities (as needed), space, and a computer.
A limited number of spots are reserved each year for Einstein medical students who plan to taka a gap year to conduct clinical research: see HERE for more information.

For Current Scholars
Success of the CRTP:
Since our first graduating class in 2000 we have conferred over 270 degrees. While our program has been successful from the beginning, we are always striving to provide educational opportunities for the changing research needs of clinical scientists at Montefiore Einstein. Some of the recent additions to our curriculum include:
- Incorporation of Team Based Learning Methodology
- Addition of Associate Directors in research areas that span the translational research spectrum
- Elective offerings that span the translational research spectrum
We are also very proud of our alumni, many of whom have gone on to be successful clinical researchers and serve in leadership roles both here at Einstein and at other institutions
