Student Benefits Summary

Predoctoral and M.D./Ph.D. Students

Medical

Pre-doctoral students and MD/PhD students receive a bundled benefits package that includes medical and vision coverage. Optional dental coverage is available. The medical plan options are– the MontePrime EPO and the MonteCare PPO.

The MontePrime EPO plan requires that certain in-network providers be used to receive benefits under the plan. Any cost share will be higher when the Empire BlueCard PPO facilities and providers outside of Montefiore and the Montefiore Integrated Provider Association network are used.

The MonteCare PPO plan uses the Empire BlueCard PPO network and the Montefiore Network. Your share of the cost will be higher when you use Empire PPO facilities and providers outside of Montefiore and the Montefiore Integrated Provider Association. The MonteCare PPO gives you the flexibility to choose any provider, however, you will pay more for healthcare services out of network.

Prescription Drug Benefits

The prescription drug benefits under the MontePrime EPO plan are available through the Montefiore Outpatient Pharmacy only.

Under the MonteCare PPO plan, the prescription drug benefits are administered by Express Scripts Inc. (ESI). Under the MonteCare PPO plan you have the option using retail pharmacies within the ESI network, the ESI home delivery pharmacy service, or the Montefiore Outpatient Pharmacy for your prescription drug needs. Prescriptions filled at the Montefiore Outpatient Pharmacy will be delivered to the Weiler Hospital Pharmacy on a daily basis.

Dental Benefits

Einstein offers two dental plan options – the Cigna DHMO Plan or the Cigna PPO Plan.

Vision Benefits

The Vision Plan, administered by United Health Care Vision, provides benefits for routine eye exams, eyeglasses or contact lenses.

Group Legal Services

Group Legal Services are provided by Hyatt Legal Services. This coverage helps pay all or part of the cost of a wide range of personal legal services through a network of participating attorneys.

Bright Horizons

Bright Horizons Emergency Back-Up Care and Enhanced Family Support – This program can help you find emergency back-up childcare and eldercare in your home or at nearby centers or partner centers. Enhanced family support offered through a free SitterCity membership can provide additional assistance.

Child Care Grant

International Students

International students on a visa sponsored by Yeshiva University are eligible to participate in the medical and dental plans offered by Yeshiva University. For more information, please call the yeshiva University Benefits Office at 646.592.4340.

Einstein Medical Students

The University requires that all students matriculating at Einstein MUST have health insurance in effect for the entire duration of their stay at Einstein. The University provides all students with single coverage in the Einstein Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) which is provided through Anthem and is administered by Academic Health Plans and Christie Student Health. All current students are automatically billed for this coverage effective with the start of the academic year (July 1). All incoming students will be automatically billed for their coverage beginning on the first day of classes. Students may enroll eligible dependents in the plan at an additional cost.

Students who have comparable coverage may be eligible to waive enrollment in the Einstein Student Health Plan. All students must complete a waiver each and every academic year during the annual waiver period. Once a student waiver has been approved, the automatic charge will be removed from your student finance account. Failure to waive coverage during the annual waiver period will cause the automatic charge to remain on your account for the next academic year.
