Message from the Chief Allan W. Wolkoff, M.D. Allan W. Wolkoff, M.D. The Montefiore Einstein Division of Hepatology was initially founded in 2007 and has served an important role in bridging the outstanding liver-related research in the Marion Bessin Liver Research Center (founded in 1974) with state-of-the-art patient care and translational research. Our outlook is multidisciplinary, as the liver has important roles in many aspects of human health. Projects in collaboration with other divisions (e.g., endocrinology) and departments (e.g., Department of Developmental and Molecular Biology) have been in place for many years and are strongly encouraged. We have worked with the Division of Abdominal Transplantation in the Department of Surgery to establish an active liver transplantation program with patient outcomes that are among the best in the world. The cadre of academic hepatology clinicians that have been recruited is truly outstanding and their interest and excitement in furthering the field are highly regarded. Recent recruitment of a number of outstanding basic investigators has contributed to the academic breadth of the division and has expanded our bridge to disease-oriented translational research, providing fundamental insights into pathobiology and ultimate treatment of liver disease in our patients. Allan W. Wolkoff, M.D. Chief, Division of Hepatology
