The Center for Positive Living/ID Clinic, one of the largest HIV/AIDS clinics in New York state, has been caring for persons with HIV for more than 20 years.

With a mission to improve the lives of those with HIV/AIDS in the Bronx and the neighboring communities through excellence in medical and supportive care, one central location for comprehensive HIV/AIDS treatment, and a steadfast commitment to quality improvement at every level, the Center for Positive Living/ID Clinic receives more patient referrals each year than any other HIV specialty clinic in New York State.

Montefiore Medical Center is the primary teaching hospital of Albert Einstein College of Medicine, known throughout New York City, the state, and the nation as a preeminent provider of quality health care.

The Center for Positive Living/ID Clinic provides comprehensive HIV primary care, specialty services, and access to clinical trials all in one location. It is a major site for teaching multidisciplinary health professionals about care of people living with HIV/AIDS.

Services

All services provided are confidential.

  1. Primary Medical Care

    A comprehsive array of medical services for persons with HIV and other infectious disease problems is available. Our HIV specialists are recognized as experts in their field. We offer the most advanced therapies and diagnostic tests for the evaluation and management of HIV disease.

    While the majority of the Center's patients are inffected with HIV, Montefiore Einstein faculty physicians also treat patients for non-HIV infectious diseases, including:

    • tuberculosis
    • osteomyelitis
    • syphilis and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
    • endocarditis
    • skin infections
    • hospital-acquired infections

    In addition, Montefiore Einstein HIV specialists provide expertise in providing post-exposure HIV prophylaxis for patients who have been exposed to the virus.

  2. Nursing Services
    Our specially trained nurses facilitate a caring environment by assessing patient needs, providing education, and coordinating care.
  3. Nutritional Counseling
    Registered dieticians provide patients with an individualized assessment of their nutritional needs and ongoing counseling and monitoring to ensure optimum health.
  4. Case Management
    A team of social work case managers is available for patients in need of concrete services such as insurance, housing, and financial assistance as well as short-term psychosocial support.
  5. Group Programs
    Specialized groups, including peer support groups, meet regularly to offer support and education.
  6. Laboratory Services
  7. Mental Health Services
    Psychiatrists and therapists with experience in treating persons with HIV, including persons with substance use problems, are available daily. Services include crisis intervention, counseling, psychiatric assessment and medication management, and ongoing individual, family, and couples therapy.
  8. Specialty Consultations
  9. Women's Health Services
    Our team of expert obstetrician/gynecologists provide care to women including routine services such as breast examinations and pap smears as well as specialized diagnostic procedures.
  10. Prenatal Care
    We offer expert on-site prenatal care to pregnant HIV-positive women. Our obstetrician/gynecologists follow patients through pregnancy in conjunction with the patients' HIV primary care providers. Women deliver their babies at the Weiler Division of Montefiore Medical Center.
  11. Substance Abuse Treatment
    We provide both on-site and referral services to methadone, buprenorphrine, alcohol and other treatment programs.
  12. Dermatology
    A team of dermatologists is available for assessment and treatment of skin disorders associated with HIV.
  13. Buddy/Volunteer Program (Project BRAVO)
    Our team of volunteer "buddies" is available to provide friendly visiting to hospitalized patients. Buddies provide patients with assistance navigating clinic services and coordinate special patient-related events.
  14. On-Site Specialty Pharmacy
    Conveniently located within the Montefiore Center for Positive Living/ID Clinic, the Specialty Pharmacy provides quick and confidential prescription filling services. Our pharmacists have special training in HIV disease and medication management and are available for individualized medication counseling and information. Home delivery is available and we work with all insurance plans.
  15. Food Pantry
    A fully stocked food pantry is available to patients in need of assistance.
  16. Clinical Trials
    The Center for Positive Living/ID Clinic offers patients access to promising new medications and treatments for investigational purposes before they become available by prescription. Participation is completely voluntary.
  17. Adherence Services
    Services include individualized assessment and planning for medication management as well as adherence to health care services.
  18. HIV Counseling and Testing
    HIV testing is available upon request using the most current testing technology including noninvasive, rapid oral tests.
  19. Hepatitis C Services
    The Center's HIV/Hepatitis C program offers comprehensive on-site evaluation and treatment services, with outcomes rivaling those of national and international clinical trials.
  20. Consumer Advisory Board
    We encourage our patient consumers to get involved. The Center for Positive Living/ID Clinic has a Consumer Advisory Board of persons living with HIV and AIDS who receive care at the Center. The Board meets monthly with representatives of the Center's staff. Board members evaluate the delivery of services and care at the Center and provide feedback about the planning of new programs. Patients are welcome to attend the open meetings, held twice yearly. The Consumer Advisory Board serves as a model for AIDS centers throughout the country, and Montefiore Einstein physician faculty regularly give presentations and advice to other clinics and treatment centers who wish to create their own advisory boards.
