ACGME-accredited Transplant Hepatology Fellowship The Transplant Hepatology Fellowship Program at Montefiore’s Moses Campus is an intensive one-year program of advanced clinical training, open to physicians who have completed an ACGME-accredited gastroenterology fellowship. Upon completion of training, fellows will be eligible for advanced UNOS certification in liver transplantation and ABIM board certification in transplant hepatology. Program participants receive training through various clinical experiences, formal educational activities, and structured research opportunities. Participants learn: Evaluation of liver transplant candidates, including selection and management Operative procedures, including organ procurement and post-operative management, including immunosuppression How to perform endoscopy on patients with liver disease, including endoscopic management of esophageal varices Performance of percutaneous liver biopsies, including knowledge of the appropriate indication for liver biopsy and interpretation of the histologic findings. Applications for the fellowship program are accepted via the AASLD Transplant Hepatology Fellowship application system. ACGME-accredited Combined Gastroenterology & Transplant Hepatology Fellowship Program Available for current Montefiore Einstein Gastroenterology fellows who are interested in pursuing a career in transplant hepatology, this pathway allows for an accelerated three-year program, which would incorporate intensive transplant hepatology training during their fellowship. Fellows interested in participating are selected during their first year of Montefiore gastroenterology fellowship. Graduates of the combined program are board-eligible for both the ABIM Gastroenterology & Transplant Hepatology boards. Non-ACGME-accredited Hepatology Fellowship Program The Hepatology Fellowship Program allows individuals who have completed an ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency to learn general and transplant hepatology in a one-year program. This year involves rotations on the inpatient transplant hepatology service, the hepatology consult service, and hepatology outpatient clinic. Applications for this program are accepted beginning in September of the prior academic year and can be emailed to the program coordinator, Leslie Costa. Interviews are conducted December-February.
