Primary Care & Social Internal Medicine
How to Apply
Signaling
We review all applications and use a holistic review process to invite applicants with demonstrated interest and experience in our core values of primary care and social medicine. We cannot differentiate signals to the Categorical program for applicants who apply to both our program and the Categorical program. For those who apply to our program only, we may use signals to send additional interviews after our holistic review process is complete.
Special considerations
We are not a preliminary program. We are an ACGME accredited 3-year residency program focused on primary care training combined with social medicine with a separate application process from the Moses/Weiler Categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program.
If you have already started another residency in another 3-year residency program in the United States or completed a transitional year, we are unfortunately unable to offer you a position in our program.
Application Deadline
Applications are accepted through December 1 of the year prior to matriculation. You must apply through ERAS. Our programs are listed under Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Moses and Weiler campuses).
National Resident Matching Program
The Montefiore Einstein Internal Medicine Residency Programs participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). NRMP numbers are as follows:
- Medicine – Three-Year Categorical Residency, 38 positions: 3153140C0++
- Medicine – Primary Care/Social Internal Medicine, 10 positions: 3153140M0
Doctors of Osteopathy
We accept DO candidates but they must have taken their USMLE Step 1 and preferably Step 2 by the time of application.
Interviews
Applicants will be considered for an interview on the basis of their overall academic record and clinical performance. There are no USMLE cut-off scores, although higher scores are more favorably considered. All parts of USMLE Step 2 must be passed on the first attempt.
Interviews run from November through January on a rolling basis, and are by invitation only. Every effort is made to accommodate applicants' schedules.
International Applicants
Applications from international medical graduates are selectively considered. A medical degree obtained within 3 years of application with evidence of continued clinical work and/or productive scholarly/research activity is required. Experience in the US medical system is not required but is preferred. ECFMG certification is not required at the time of application, but must be completed by the time of submitting a rank list.
Visa Sponsorship
Montefiore Medical Center sponsors J-1 and H-1B visas. For sponsorship, you must hold valid ECFMG certification by March 1st of the year you are applying for training.
Verification of Residency
Send all verification requests to Sheila Harrison at SHEHARRI@montefiore.org with your name, date of birth, dates of residency (beginning and graduation), and last four digits of social security number.
