Psychiatry Research Institute at Montefiore Einstein (PRIME)

The Psychiatry Research Institute of Montefiore Einstein (PRIME) was established in 2017 to provide an infrastructure for a steadily growing research enterprise. Ongoing and projected areas of research include:

  • Basic and translational studies using a variety of state-of-the-science and emerging approaches
  • Clinical trials evaluating promising pharmacological, psychotherapeutic and neurostimulation-based approaches to challenging psychiatric conditions and substance use disorders
  • Neuroimaging in populations with or at risk for mental illness and substance use disorders
  • Bioinformatics research relevant to behavioral health and mental illness
  • Health disparities and multicultural mental health research 

PRIME is committed to:

  • Developing an environment that encourages creative, interdisciplinary research that promotes health and wellness and advances understanding and treatment of mental illness and substance use disorders
  • Supporting a broad base of science and scholarship on areas from neural circuits to mental health policy
  • Engaging meaningfully with and contributing to the diverse communities served by Montefiore and Einstein.

A Study Identified 6 Types of Depression. Here's Why That Matters

Jonathan Alpert, M.D., Ph.D., says a new study that identified six subtypes of major depression is preliminary and needs to be replicated with a larger and more diverse set of participants. Dr. Alpert is the Dorothy and Marty Silverman Chair in Psychiatry at Einstein and is chair and professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Einstein and Montefiore.
