Professional Interests

Martin Penn is a Certified Public Accountant with nearly 30 years of experience in public and private accounting with companies in diverse industries.  He earned both Bachelor and Master of Business Administration degrees from Rutgers University. After leaving the field of public accounting, he spent the majority of his career at the New York Times, notably in the News Department.

Joining Einstein’s Office of Medical Education (OME) in 2010 as the departmental administrator, Mr. Penn was promoted in 2017 to the position of Senior Director of Operations for OME. His responsibilities include: overseeing educational technologies, including electronic examinations, the learning management system and the curriculum management system; directing staff in educational support services, educational facilities, educational informatics, and data analysis; managing the budget for all the units of OME; coordinating matters involving office personnel; and serving as a liaison to other administrative departments.

Mr. Penn received his faculty appointment in January 2018. He is the course director for a 4th-year elective in Financial Literacy for Medical Students, mentors students who elect reading electives in finance, and gives presentations to residents on a diverse array of financial topics such as disability and life insurance, investing, income taxes, and retirement planning.

Mr. Penn is one of the small group facilitators in the longitudinal Bioethics course during the pre-clerkship phase of the curriculum. He has facilitated sessions for newly matriculated students in Recognizing Unconscious Bias, and in Oath Writing. In addition, he conducts faculty development workshops in how to use Excel.
