Professional Interests
Dr. Mahmood is board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology with advanced training in musculoskeletal ultrasound. After earning her medical degree at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University (Brooklyn, NY), she completed internal medicine residency at Northwell Health (Manhasset, NY) and rheumatology fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center (Bronx, NY).
Dr. Mahmood is currently an Attending Physician in the Division of Rheumatology, where she serves as the Director of the Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSUS) Clinic, as well as Assistant Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she serves as the Director of the Musculoskeletal Disorders Course . She is an active member of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), Association of Women In Rheumatology (AWIR), and Ultrasound School of North American Rheumatologists (USSONAR).
Dr. Mahmood is skilled in the treatment of general rheumatology diseases, including osteoarthritis, crystal arthropathies including gout, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, myositis, and vasculitis. Her research interests include on nutrition and inflammatory arthritis, musculoskeletal ultrasound in diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases, and inflammatory myositis, with a particular focus in urban and diverse environments.
