Einstein Appoints New Director of Communications & Marketing

October 7, 2008 — (Bronx, NY) — Paul Moniz has joined Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in the newly created position of Director of Communications and Marketing. Mr. Moniz is an award-winning former broadcast journalist and a seasoned communications professional with 20 years of journalism and public relations experience.

He brings an extraordinary range of experience to a position that will help raise Einstein's visibility regionally, nationally and internationally." The appointment comes at a time of significant change at the College of Medicine. Einstein has recently implemented a five-year strategic research plan aimed at building stronger links between basic science and clinical medicine — with the goal of more quickly translating lab science into patient therapies.

Before joining Einstein, Mr. Moniz ran Connect Strategic Communications, a New York City-based consultancy specializing in media strategy, video production, and spokesperson training. At Connect, he served as executive producer of large-scale web video projects for the American Foundation for the Blind. Previously, Mr. Moniz was a vice president in the health care practice of Widmeyer Communications, a Washington, DC-based public relations firm.

Prior to Widmeyer, Mr. Moniz enjoyed a 15-year career as a television reporter and anchor. He reported for the network affiliates of CBS, NBC and ABC along the East Coast. In New York City, he was affiliated with the network flagship stations WCBS-TV and WNBC-TV. He also served as contributing correspondent to the CBS Evening News. As an investigative health reporter at WCBS-TV, Mr. Moniz covered the environmental and health effects of the World Trade Center attack, joining a team that won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for 9/11 coverage.

Mr. Moniz is a recipient of an Emmy Award for individual achievement in reporting and has received seven Emmy nominations. His work in journalism has been recognized by the Associated Press, Radio-Television News Directors Association, New York State Associated Press Broadcasters Association and the Society of Silurians. He is a graduate of Boston University, a native of Rhode Island and resides in New York City.
