Dr. Kami Kim

Critical Training — Dr. Kami Kim has been awarded a five-year, $1.6 million renewal grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to support her continued leadership of a multidisciplinary educational program for graduate students, postdoctoral researchers and clinical researchers. Trainees in the program are mentored by a score of distinguished faculty members and collaborate on translational research projects studying global health, international medicine and emerging infectious disease. The program offers unique educational opportunities, including seminars and courses. Trainees are afforded the opportunity to work with international collaborators in countries where the global health issues they study are the most pressing. Prior funding has resulted in 23 papers on topics that range from the proteins involved in the persistence of Toxoplasma gondii infection to the impact of hormonal contraception on endogenous antimicrobial activity against the herpes simplex virus. Dr. Kim is professor of medicine, of microbiology & immunology and of pathology.
