Dean’s Report
The Dean was not able to attend the November Senate Meeting.

Speaker’s Report
In his report of the last two Senate Council meetings, Senate Speaker Jeff Segall reported that Robbie Burk is stepping down as Chair of the Awards Committee as of December 31, 2010.  The membership of the committee will be updated and a new Chair will be identified.  Jeff also reported that North Shore and LIJ faculty are going to have their primary appointments with the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine and, thus, from now on will be having adjunct appointments at Einstein and will not be able to supervise Einstein graduate students.

Committee on Committees
Vinayaka Prasad, Chair of the Committee on Committees, proposed a slate for the newly formed Senate Bylaws Review Committee, which was subsequently approved.  The members of the committee will be Elyse Sussman, Jeff Segall, Matt Levy, Todd Olson, Kate Dadachova, Bettina Fries, Mark Czaja, Pooja Arora, Neil Thomas, Annie Katz, and Rachel Ames.  The Senate Bylaws Review Committee will consider possible changes to the bylaws that will improve the functioning of the Einstein Senate and determine whether there are elements that should be updated to enhance the ability of the Senate to contribute to the success of the College. 

Marc Milstein:  ITS Items of Interest
Marc Milstein, Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, discussed several ITS items of interest.  These included the impending rollout of a new e-mail system designed for high availability and recovery.  All e-mail users are expected to be converted to the new, improved system by February 2011.  Other ITS items of interest included improved wireless for Visiting Professors and others who need capabilities beyond what is currently provided by YUGuest; the establishment of a search committee to recruit a Director of Research Computing; and construction of Einstein’s first-ever data center which will be housed in the Van Etten building.

Dan Braccia:  Annual Security Report Review
Dan Braccia, Chief of Security, reported on the publication of the Annual Security Report.  The report was prepared in compliance with the provisions of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act.  The report has been distributed via e-mail, and hard copies are available in the Security Office.  The report can also be accessed online here:
