The minutes of the previous meeting were approved after correction.
Dr. Francine Einstein was honored at the Spirit of Achievement luncheon. Liz Lange and Anne Wojcicki were co-honorees with Dr. Einstein. The function was very successful.
On April 15th, the “Campaign to Transform Einstein” was announced at the Plaza Hotel, with the acknowledgement of the $160 million gift by Muriel L. Block.
Drs. Rob Singer and Bill Jacobs were elected to the National Academy of Sciences, a well-deserved honor reflecting their significant scientific achievements.
Dr. Baum discussed changes to the medical student promotion process proposed by the committee on student promotions and professional standards. The bylaws currently state that failure of 8 tests including steps 1, 2CK (clinical Knowledge) and 2CS (Clinical Skills) of the USMLE, results in mandatory dismissal. However, the bylaws also state that students have a maximum of 3 attempts to pass each of the USMLE Steps. The proposed change is that the failure of USMLE Steps 1, 2CK, or 2CS will not count towards the total of 8 TEST failures, but students still have a maximum of 3 attempts each to pass Steps 1, 2CK, and 2CS as a separate condition. The proposed change was unanimously approved.
The meeting adjourned at 3:55 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jeffrey E. Segall, Ph.D.
Speaker, Einstein Senate
