Dean’s Report
Dean Allen Spiegel summarized the recent meeting of the Board of Overseers.
Speaker’s Report
Senate Speaker Jeff Segall reminded the audience that nominations are due on October 15 for the Faculty Mentoring Award.
Committee on Committees
Maureen Charron, Chair of the Committee on Committees, reported on the recent activities of her group. Changes to the membership of the Committee on Committees and the Promotions Committees were approved by the Senate. Todd Olson was nominated as Parliamentarian by the Committee on Committees and approved. The members of the Senate Committee on Fiscal Affairs were announced.
Election of Senate Officers
The election of officers was presided over by Todd Olson. The current Speaker (Jeff Segall), Vice-Speaker (Elyse Sussman), and Treasurer (Amos Orlofsky) all ran unopposed and were re-elected. The current Secretary (Teresa DiLorenzo) is stepping down, but there were no nominations for this office. The position was left open for future nominations and consideration at a subsequent Senate meeting.
James Geraghty: Banner Finance and Grants Update
James Geraghty, Chief Financial Officer, provided an update on Banner and answered Banner-related questions that had been previously submitted by faculty.
Paul Marantz and Louis Weiss: PhD Training Opportunities in Clinical/Translational Science
Paul Marantz, Professor of Clinical Epidemiology and Population Health, and Louis Weiss, Professor of Pathology, discussed Einstein’s two PhD programs in clinical and translational science: the established PhD in Clinical Investigation (PCI) program and the newer Burroughs Wellcome-funded Education Connecting Laboratory Investigation and Population Sciences at Einstein (eCLIPSE) program.
