MINUTES OF SENATE COUNCIL MEETING

December 17, 2013

PRESENT: Drs. Allen Spiegel, Jeffrey Segall, Elyse Sussman, Ekaterina Dadachova, Francine Einstein, Harris Goldstein, Nadine Katz, Pamela Stanley, Stephen Baum, Ed Burns

EXCUSED: Drs. Victor Schuster, Mr. Michael Lubrano

ABSENT: Drs. Robbie Burk, Susan Horwitz, Ulrich Kadolsky, Todd Olson, Genevieve Neal-Perry

GUEST: Ms. Shelly Motzkin

 

The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.

The outgoing Council was thanked for their service.

The reappointment of the Dean was discussed. A contract for a 4 year reappointment is planned.

The Dean described his intent to include the input from many sources including the chairs and center directors and the Senate Fiscal Committee to help the school address the significant financial issues that the school faces.

The agenda for the board meeting on Wednesday was described.

The mentoring award ceremony of December 10th went very well.

The LCME kickoff ceremony was held on December 10th as well. The process allowed someone very experienced with the process to meet with the people who are involved in preparing the LCME materials.

The search for a new Provost of Yeshiva University is progressing. Excellent candidates are currently being interviewed.

Einstein and Montefiore are participating in an application for a NYC Clinical Research Network, a regional network collecting patient samples and data. The New York Genome Center is part of this network.

The BETTR training grant from the NIH, bringing underrepresented minorities to science, is doing well.

There is a strong commitment to reinitiating the Neuroscience search.
