Senate Meeting: Wednesday, May 7, 2014

Dean Spiegel stated that the new tenure policy is still being worked on. He thanked those involved with the closeout of the stimulus fund grant and has found that there will be no substantive change in the NIH budget for fy 2015.

Speaker Segall informed the Senate of the predicted serious budget deficit which had been discussed at the Senate Council meeting.

New members of the Tenure and Compensation Policy Committee were proposed by its Chair, Dr. Charron, and they were approved by the Senate. The Senate also approved new members to be added to the Faculty Review Committee. The Chair also requested volunteers for the Faculty Interactions Committee.

Dr. Steinman, Chair of the Senate Legal Committee, then read an opinion given by an outside counsel on the rights of tenured faculty. A discussion was followed by a vote stating that the Senate did not approve of salary reductions without the advice and consent of the Senate.
