The closing is ongoing – technical issues are being worked out with a large number of regulatory educational agencies. The NIH and grant funding agencies and departments are all satisfied.

Benefits – we will be shifting to the Montefiore health care plan in January. It seems generally quite comparable to the Einstein plan.

Tenure committee – a new committee has been formed to evaluate the current Professors for tenure. Faculty with adequate funding for consideration are being evaluated. The council asked that it be confirmed that all Professors fitting the financial criteria are being considered.

The proposed Professors CAP for the next academic year was presented and approved.

Medical school curriculum reform is being considered on a broad scale. It is anticipated that the preclinical curriculum would be shifted to 18 months, in order to provide adequate time for clerkships to evaluate possible specialties as well as provide flexibility for more innovative training experiences during the fourth year.

Internal selection committees for chairs of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology were active, and the selected chairs will be presented to the committee of Professors for approval.

Search for chair of Medicine – 4 finalists have been interviewed and after the closing it is hoped that one will be selected and an offer made.

Closing of the cafeteria: very few people were using it for lunch and the decision was to keep the kitchen staff and catering to enable providing support for events, and the café will be enhanced with support from the Lubin kitchen and some items from Weiler.

The meeting adjourned at 4:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Jeffrey E. Segall, Ph.D.
Speaker, Einstein Senate
