Senate Meeting: Wednesday, September 2, 2015

Dean Spiegel reported on the final steps to complete the transition. He mentioned that the Middle States and the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) have approved the deal but approval from the US Department of Education remained to be finalized. Dean Siegel announced that appointments of new chairs for the Departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology will be released after the Committee of Professors meets, and that by middle September he anticipates offering the position of Chair of Medicine to the leading candidate.

Jeffrey Segall mentioned that next month there will be election of Officers to the Senate, which includes the Speaker, the Vice Speaker, Secretary, and the Treasurer. He also commented that over the next few years, a number of committees will be involved in a reform process to look at the medical education system at Einstein.

Mr. Zal Sarkari from the Chartis Group gave a presentation regarding a strategic planning process to maximize the benefit of Einstein integrating into the Montefiore Health System.
