There was a discussion regarding mentoring of junior faculty. There was general agreement that mentoring is valuable for faculty at all stages of their careers.

There was a community board meeting where the board members were shown the plans for Van Etten.

Further plans for leasing Van Etten space for biotechnology research were described.

There is continued work on developing the long term possibility of a Metro North stop near to campus.

There will be a discussion at the next Science Council meeting of a proposed center for molecular therapeutics and drug discovery.

SciVal as a research funding tool was mentioned and will be presented at the next Senate meeting.

Eduardo Zaborowski is the new faculty representative for research computing. There is an ongoing search for a computing expert who will be responsible for the interface between basic scientists and clinical data at Montefiore.

The initial experience of the new Maimonides clerkship is positive.

The meeting adjourned at 3:45 p.m.
